Become Righteous: Faith in Christ Jesus Explained!

If the "effectual, fervent prayers of a Righteous Man avail much" my first question is "how can one be righteous?" If the preresquite of powerful prayers is to righteous, then I want to know how to become righteous! It is by faith. We are made the righteousness of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
